The Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday approved N10billion loan from Zenith Bank for the newly inaugurated administration of Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to finance some projects in the state.
This was as Wike approved the appointment of Nigeria’s ambassador to Korea, Chief Desmond Akawor, as the administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), with Chief Ferdinand Alabraba a
s chairman of the Board.
Wike had said in a letter of request for the loan, which was sent to the House of Assembly, that the projects his administration intends to carry out include rehabilitation of roads within the Port Harcourt metropolis, renovation of the Assembly and High Court complexes, construction of Abonnema Bridge and completion of Agip road, among others.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has kicked against decision of the State Assembly to approve N10 billion loan for Wike.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday and signed by its publicity secretary, Chris Finebone, the APC accused Wike of commencing a programme to defraud the people of the state through phoney bank loans.
“Barely two weeks into his controversial administration, Chief Wike has commenced what many believe is a programme to massively defraud the people of Rivers State through phoney bank loans.
“Today, in a matter of a few minutes, his cronies approved his request to obtain a N10 billion bank loan from Zenith Bank Plc under the questionable purpose of carrying out some un-named projects.”
