Niger-Delta Philanthropist Book Club Set to Award Participants

A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) book club owned by Niger-Delta philanthropist, Godfrey Pondi is set to have concluded plans to award participants of his book review competition of the book called 'From Third World To First' by Lee Kuan Yew. The participants were members of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS). 

This was made known to Gbaramtu voice newspaper  by the Club’s coordinator, Comr. Victor Isereke in a statement, stressing that the founder of the Book Club, Mr. Godfrey Pondi, a renowned Niger Delta philanthropist, believes in using books as a catalyst for the emancipation of the Niger Delta region particularly the Ijaws intellectually.

According to Isereke, he noted that while some members of the Gbaramatu Students Association have submitted its review papers, a larger chunck of the students where yet to submit, he particularly called on NAGS to expedite the submission processes as the examiners from the Book Club are set.

In giving the Book to be reviewed by the students, the founder of the Book Club, Mr. Godfrey Pondi personally picked  Lee Kuan Yew’s book entitled “from third world to first”.

It was a Book chronologically detailing all antecedents Singapore under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew went through before getting to where it is today; the many challenges, sacrifices, political, social and the multifaceted battles with the belief that humans anywhere in the world including Niger Deltans particularly the Ijaws, with the right persons in place  have the capacity to drive the needed change they desire before anyone can do it for them.

Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper learnt that the Book Club started its maiden edition with the National Association of Ogulagha Clan Students, NAOCS with cash prizes allotted to the three winners.

A Niger Delta based Philanthropist, Mr. Godfrey Pondi, through his Book Club, the Godfrey Pondi Book Club demonstrated his clear mission by intellectually building Niger Deltans particularly the Ijaws for the liberational struggle of the region.

“All arrangement is now set to award participants for the Godfrey Pondi Book Club review challenge for members of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS).

“The exercise was to award members of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students to reward hardworking participants with mouth watering cash prizes and reward Plaques. 

“The winner of the competition will go home with a cash prize of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand (150,000) naira. The second place winner will go home with One Hundred Thousand (100,000) naira while the third place winner will receive Fifty Thousand Naira (50,000).” Victor Isereke stated. 

Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper learnt that the Book review challenge started its maiden edition with the National Association of Ogulagha Clan Students, NAOCS with cash prizes allotted to the three winners as it would be recalled that that is the same book to be reviewed by NAGS.

Help Fight Against Jungle Justice

This jungle justice that some Nigerians use in killing people is not fair. Today I have decided to write how I feel about it. It is totally wrong, I condemn it, how can someone be burnt alive just because he/she stole something that is not worth anything. Some people might think it is right, but for me I do not support it. For instance, few days ago a 7 year old boy was beaten and burnt alive just because he stole Garri. I am not saying stealing is good, but there are other ways to handle the issues. If it is an armed robber that went stealing with a gun and get killed that one is understandable, but the one I do not support is the killing of someone that is not armed, who might went to steal because they are hungry and might have not eaten for days. I know before someone is going to steal common Garri, it means the person has no other option and way to survive. Probably that person might have begged for help and nobody helped and decided to go and steal for survival. Those doing this jungle justice should understand that it is not easy for some people, the child you are burning alive, you do not if that child's mother is sick or needs help badly or the man that you are burning alive, you do not know if that person has a wife that is pregnant and maybe has children, but no job or someone to help. Therefore the only option left for the person is to go and steal for survival. Some of these people doing this burning, when they see the real thieves and those killing people they can not do anything to them. If someone steal, the best thing is to hand over the person to the police and crime fighting agencies. The police are there to protect life and property. Though, I know some people would say if you hand over a thief to the police in Nigeria that the police will release the person. But before, you even burn someone alive, monitor the person and see if the person is a real thief and does evil things. In my opinion, at first when you see someone stealing little things for the first time, you can beat the person and warn the person not to try it again and not burning the person. Do you know how it is to burn your fellow human alive,dont you have blood or soft heart. It is not fair. I believe it is only in Nigeria they are doing this jungle justice. I have never seen or heard anywhere apart from Nigeria that someone went to steal in the market because of hunger and the person is burnt alive. The Nigeria Government should look into this issue and something about it, it is not fair. There are other ways to handle these issues. This jungle justice is becoming too much. If you are doing such thing, it could happen to you or someone close to you some day. Remember what goes around, comes around. Let us help one another, nothing is too small. Give every little you have to someone that needs it, because every little helps. Sometimes it is hard to get a job or see someone that will help you. Many people went stealing because they do not have jobs nor have someone to help them. Please, anywhere you see someone stealing, help the person if you can so that the person wont go stealing again. Life is not easy. It is so heart breaking to see people being burnt alive. I urge the Nigeria Government to help stop this jungle justice. Nigerians, we are talented and smart. What some people need is little opportunity and they will make impact and you could make that happen. Help someone today and fight against jungle justice. This is how I feel about it, jungle justice is totally wrong and if i have my right I will fight against it.

Niger-Delta stakeholders meet with President Buhari.

Photos from Niger-Delta Leaders and stakeholders meeting with president Buhari at the state house Abuja yesterday 1st of November. The purpose of the meeting was to dialogue and discussed how the Militancy and pipeline bombing will come to an end in the Niger-Delta. The leaders told president Buhari 16 things that will bring peace finally to the region. The most crucial among the demands were: to approve more funds for the Niger-Delta Amnesty programme; re-instate the Marine time University; cleaning up of oil wells; Remove the army from the region; order companies to move headquarters to the region; oil firms to employ more of the region youths and more funds for the development of the region. The meeting lasted for 2 hours and immediately after that group photos was taken outside the villa. The movie features Ghanian actor Van Vicker who played the Zuckerberg role, John Okafor, and Francis Odega. I do not know if this is true, if it is then it is very hilarious.
